April Evening Program – Presented by Diane Gayeski

Session Title: New Design Models for New Media:  Why ADDIE Doesn’t Work for e-learning

Session Description: gayeski_image.jpg

Too much e-learning is old wine in new bottles – slideshows posted online, lectures delivered via webcasts, or computerized versions of flashcards for drill-and-practice.  Although the basics of instructional design transcend media, we do need to modify our strategies to take advantage of the capacities of online, networked learning.

Session Objectives:

In this session, participants will learn:

    1. Why the standard, linear ADDIE model is a poor match for designing e-learning
    2. How to identify and select varied strategies, including synchronous and asynchronous courses, serious games, online communities, and mobile apps
    3. Strategies for rapid prototyping and online discussion facilitation
    4. What various organizations have done when moving from traditional learning to e-learning
